One of the smallest full-grown dogs ever brought to the kennel, Louie was spotted roaming a motel parking lot for days before a kind gentleman was able to capture him and bring him to AALOC. Luck, or a divine angel must have been looking out for him. With his very small size, only about 6 pounds, he could have easily been run over by a car, eaten by a coyote, or injured or killed in any number of ways. Thankfully he’s safe now, a bit timid but beginning to trust humans more quickly.
Louie looks like the apple head breed of Chihuahua because of his rounded head and short, stubby muzzle. And then there’s his eyes… like most apple head Chihuahuas Louie has expressive, big eyes that can look right into your soul. He’s absolutely adorable! And although he could easily travel with you everywhere you go in a small puppy carrier, Louie is all dog. He plays well with other small pooches, enjoys toys, and likes to take walks (although it’s taken a couple of weeks for him to get used to wearing a harness and walking on a leash).
In general Chihuahuas are intelligent dogs that are very loyal to their owners. They typically have no concept of their small size, so Chihuahua owners need to be careful their dog doesn’t overstep his or her bravado with larger dogs. Also, Chihuahuas must be protected from small children who might injure them in play, and from falls, which is one of the top five reasons Chihuahua die. They live very well in small apartments and don’t require excessive activity to keep them healthy, although their diet needs to be closely monitored so they don’t gain weight. For most, snuggling and cuddling are two of their all-time favorite activities.
Visit us at AALOC to meet Louie during visiting hours (10am to 3pm daily) and get to know him a bit before submitting an adoption application. Our address is 15102 Jackson St., Midway City, CA – five minutes north of the 405 at Beach Avenue. One look and you might just fall in love with Louie!
