Hugo Panchito was previously owned by a family with two little girls. The family needed to move and unfortunately Hugo could not move with them. It was so sad – the girls cried uncontrollably when they had to leave Hugo at the kennel. We promised the girls we would take great care of Hugo and find him another good home.
We thought we had seen the smallest dog ever but Hugo beats them all! Barely five pounds, Hugo is the tiniest Chihuahua we have ever cared for. You can tell he was owned by a loving family with children who adored him: Hugo has the sweetest nature ever and easily makes new friends both with other small dogs and with people. He is just a love! But because of his size we recommend an adult-only household or one with older children. Chihuahuas, particularly ones as small as Hugo, cannot be dropped, allowed to jump from high places, or injured by being stepped on. Small children might not understand how fragile a tiny dog like Hugo can be.
Hugo has one other characteristic that is unique: he’s a brindle Chihuahua. Pure white Chihuahuas are the rarest color, but brindle Chihuahuas are definitely rarer than other Chihuahua colorings. Besides being affectionate companions, Chihuahuas are very intelligent and fast learners. Although they are the smallest natural breed of dogs, don’t think for a moment they are anything but a dog. They are curious and bold explorers, like to take walks and cuddle, and can even successfully compete in agility and obedience trials with sufficient training. They are also very loyal pets. You will need to protect them though from the cold, and larger dogs and other predators like coyotes and hawks. Most Chihuahuas don’t realize they are so tiny and can put themselves in danger.
Please come by and visit us at AALOC to meet Hugo during visiting hours (10am to 3pm daily) and get to know him a bit before submitting an adoption application. Our address is 15102 Jackson St., Midway City, CA – five minutes north of the 405 and Beach Avenue.
